Is Software Installation on Linux 'Broken'?

The assertion that GNU/Linux software installation is broken was greeted by the Linux faithful with much lifting of eyebrows and clenching of teeth. Did the author of the offending post raise at least one or two legitimate points that deserve some thoughtful consideration? Or has he suffered an unfortunate break from reality? Microsoft Pulls Gross-Out Ad for IE8

It looks like the image of a woman throwing up after inadvertently viewing pornography was too controversial for Microsoft. As of this morning, the online-only ad for Internet Explorer 8 called O.M.G.I.G.P. -- oh my God! Security Guard Busted For Hacking Hospital's HVAC, Patient Information Computers

"GhostExodus" bragged about his breaches on YouTube, and tried to rally fellow hackers to conduct a massive DDoS attack

A former security guard for a Dallas hospital has been arrested by federal authorities for allegedly breaking into the facility's HVAC and confidential patient information computer systems. In a bizarre twist, he posted videos of his hacks on YouTube, and was trying to recruit other hackers to help him wage a massive DDoS attack on July 4 -- one day after his planned last day on the job.
